Building Blocks - Object Lesson

So my son is almost two years old now and one thing we do together is build towers with blocks. There is so much to learn about the relationship between us and God when looking at the relationship between parent and child! Today, I want to share something I learned about God as I was building towers with my boy.

Don't mind the mess please !!

As you can see, this is one of the great towers we built together! I started by laying the foundation so we would have something to work with and Noam would add blocks as we go. Naturally, he started putting the blocks at the worst places! Sometimes I would tell him where to put them but he didn't always listen. So I worked with what he gave me since I know he is learning. I also don't want the tower to crash from his mistakes and lack of experience.

This makes me think of our walk with God so much.

God sets the foundation, he has made all the provisions for us to build up a life that is good and honourable. As we begin building or moving forward in life, we often makes mistakes. Yet he patches things up so we can keep going upwards.

We often fail to listen to God's guidance and direction. Yet He gives us that free will to choose and still guides us along, always trying to get us back on the right track.

We often do things that could literally make the building of our lives crash and turn into a disaster! Yet He is always there to save the day and add a block where we would have never thought of putting. We are just like toddlers building towers. Inexperienced and learning. And just like the learning toddler, we are not alone. We have a loving Father helping us every step of the way.

When we make a mistake does He stop helping? No! When we fail to follow His counsels does He just get up and leave us to do it alone? No! He stays by our side. The only time He withdraws Himself from helping is when we push Him away and tell Him not to help us. But He is always there to welcome us with open arms when we come back just as a loving parent would.

I love God. He is so wonderful. I want to parent like Him. What about you?
